At Preston Heights Community Group, we believe in investing in the future leaders of our community. Through hands-on learning and meaningful involvement, we offer youth an immersive experience within our organization that focuses on serving children and families. Participants gain real-world skills in leadership, teamwork, and program development while contributing to impactful community initiatives. Many former students have gone on to pursue careers in the field, continuing their journey as program coordinators, directors, and community advocates. Rooted in mentorship, growth, and connection, our goal is to empower young people to build confidence, discover their potential, and create positive change in the neighbourhoods they call home.

Thank you to our placement students for all your hard working supporting the Preston Heights & Preston community!

Prior to starting my placement at PHCG, I was anxious and thought I wouldn’t know what to do when I got there, but after starting, I became comfortable extremely quick. The staff made me feel like a part of the team right away and ensured to let me know to ask questions or clarification anytime I needed it. The tasks I am given challenge me to use my education and help me learn new skills along the way. The energy at PHCG makes me feel warm and welcome and I always look forward to going in on my placement days.

PHCG was a very beneficial experience for me throughout my time there. I experienced a welcoming sense of community the moment I walked through the doors, and this feeling would carry over throughout my placement experience. The variety of projects and activities the community group took part in was one of the most satisfying features. I got the opportunity to take an active role in a number of projects, from planning a neighborhood clean-up to supporting In the programs. The connections formed with community members were truly special. I noticed that as my placement was coming to an end, I was thinking back on the priceless lessons I had gained. Beyond the transferable skills I acquired, I also got a greater appreciation for the efficacy of neighborhood-based projects and the beneficial effects they can have on people’s lives. PHCG has had a positive impact on both my career and personal life.

I’ve enjoyed many opportunities at Preston Heights! I was able to create and run my own program. I received some of the best coaching through my supervisors and peers on what working with a non-profit organization is. I was able to apply for a grant and help advertise for PHCG. Most of all I truly enjoyed getting to know the children and staff, they welcomed me in and allowed me to be a true member and friend here.

My experience at Preston Heights Community Group has been incredibly rewarding and my growth increase day by day in getting new experience in this community. I had the opportunity to support children and youth through community-based programs and activities. I assisted with drop-in programs, helped create a safe and welcoming environment and built positive relationships with kids. Through this placement, I strengthened my communication skills, learned the importance of community engagement and developed a deeper understanding of how social services help the people at a grassroots level.
